Vindex AMD
Return to Project pageVindex Energy, a subsidiary of Arch Coal, oversees the company’s AMD/AML reclamation projects. A Kitzmiller, MD site consisting of over a hundred acres of strip mining, contains an unknown, unregistered mine that seeps AMD water. The water, flowing at 150 gallons/min, contains 75 mg/mL Fe. Due to the location of the seep, site location was confined to the side of a mountain. A series of settling ponds and wetlands covering approximately 5 acres have been constructed. These ponds contain a mixture of soil and mushroom compost to sustain wetland vegetation for the precipitation of iron oxide prior to release into the Three Forks Run watershed.
